I skipped out on this last week as we had family in for Thanksgiving. Catholic Mom celebrates our small successes each Thursday.
This season can be hectic for a lot of people. It shouldn’t be though. The true focus needs to be on Christ, not the cookies that need baked, the presents that need purchased and wrapped, or the feast to prepare.
1. Though I have got my decorations out and started the cookie baking, our family has kept Christ in it. We started having the boys hunt for the wisemen who are on a journey to find Jesus. Each day the wisemen do something nice to get closer to Jesus. Those cookies we baked are getting donated to our student troops and to Children’s Miracle Network. The wisemen had us do it. 🙂 Today, they stood before the picture Bible opened up to Mary visiting Elizabeth.
2. A wonderful member of our family is on his journey to Heaven. Most of the family could have been torn up and very sad. Instead, we were thankful. He had been fighting cancer this past year and had been doing pretty poorly. My cousin took his last breath yesterday.
3. Our homeschool schedule is all out of whack, but I am not stressing about it. December is pretty much slated as off time. We had company last week, appointments this week, company coming next week, and then Christmas. The boys do dig into their manipulatives and spare workbooks each day for fun, but I have zero lessons planned and they are ok with that. We are ahead of schedule anyway, so this will bring them to where their public schooled counter parts are.
What are your small successes?
God bless!!
Prayers for your family upon the loss of your cousin to cancer, It sounds like you are raising wise men, and that you have the right blessed waiting spirit of Advent.
Thank you!!
I am so sorry to hear of your loss, Jen. I have a friend who is on his way home, too. I love your idea of having the hunt for the wise men!! So much cooler than “Elf on a Shelf”! Did you blog about it? I’d love to share the link!
Thank you! Prayers to your friend, hun!
I got the idea from another blog, here is my post about it, link I he original creator of the idea linked in this post: https://talesofamom.wordpress.com/2013/12/03/traditions/
I too love the idea of the Wise men moving around.
Have fun with it!
God bless your family. I admire your gracious spirit.
Our schedule is out of whack too. It happens.
Blessings,
Em
